On February 26, 2023, a Clean-up Drive was successfully executed at Velli Malai, situated in the Kalvarayan Hills of the Kallakurichi District. These hills are an integral part of the Eastern Ghats of India and a prominent tourist destination within the district. Collaborating with local volunteers and college students, the event garnered support from the Tamil Nadu Forest Department’s Velli Malai range.
A total of 10 volunteers actively participated in this endeavor. The focus of the initiative was to address the issue of waste accumulation in the region. The participants concentrated their efforts on collecting discarded glass bottles, plastic wrappers, and bottles that had accumulated over time. Remarkably, the collective efforts yielded around 10 sacks of waste.
An essential aspect of the initiative was the cooperation extended by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, Velli Malai range. The gathered waste was subsequently entrusted to them for proper disposal. This collaborative approach ensures that the waste is managed in an environmentally responsible manner.
The Clean-up Drive at Velli Malai not only showcased the community’s dedication to maintaining the natural beauty of the Kalvarayan Hills but also highlighted the significance of collective action in preserving important ecological sites
